When Syed Mohd Razif founded Sutra in 1988, he had one clear mission: To use his passion and experience in the travel industry to help business travelers travel at ease with the best travel arrangements and promote local tourism. Before starting SUTRA, Syed Razif had worked his way up the ranks of this once closely guarded business and he became an early believer in the power of perseverance and hard work.
Years later, his vision is paying off. SUTRA, based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is one of the leading full service travel agencies and a multiple excellence award winner, with more than 70 full-time employees and approximately $80 million in total revenue. In last few years, the company has grown by 100%. Razif attributes his company’s recent success to several key factors:
 The experience and expertise of his team in providing customary, and yet excellent customer service to a wide range of customers in a variety of businesses.
 The focus of the company on solving the problems of customers and helping the customer make the right choice.
 A rapidly growing demand for service-focused full service travel agents among mid- to hi-market corporate companies who travel frequently and often in the best comfort. “We’re seeing a big wave in the emerging and mid market areas of companies who are traveling more and in greater frequency,” Razif says.
 The resilient characteristic of the travel industry, making it the 2ND largest industry worldwide. “Even when the economy is sluggish, the growth of the industry is still approximately 4%,” Razif says.
It was at his former company that Razif first recognized the vast potential that the travel industry offered and how it would enable him to expand his vision and passion. Razif then bought over a small travel ticketing agency and commenced on a major restructuring of the agency’s operations infrastructure and acquired the new technologies of that time to help spur the business forward.

Today, SUTRA is a travel conglomerate under the SUTRA GROUP. Well established with a large corporate and non-corporate clientele. Over 1000 specific designed Travel related Products and Services that encompass all the Travel components. Corporate Products that include M.I.C.E. and Corporate Ticketing. An ever expanding Retail Network supported by valued partners consisting of SUTRA franchisees, travel centres, and retail centres. Important ventures include travel management, software development and education.

He is also the Chairman of the BUMITRA the association for Bumiputra Travel Agents in Malaysia. On 24 October 2009, the title of Dato' was bestowed upon Tuan Syed Mohd Razif Syed Yasin by His Royal Highness, the Sultan of Pahang on the occasion of HRH 79th Birthday.
